2000 - 2008 Oil on Canvas

Although subject matter is less important to me than color and composition, subject matter
keeps me interested and motivated and is the vehicle from which a series evolves.

Cat Show Series

The pride of cat owners contrasted by the indignities placed upon cats being shown.
These paintings were shown at the Robert Canaga Gallery in 2001.
The cats just keep coming back.

Tribal/Ritual Series

This series grew out of the cat show to the customs and rites of everything from
beauty pageants, tourists, business men and art walks. The series was shown
in two parts for two months in 2002 in a solo show at Gallery 33, in Portland.

String Series

The focus was on the strings or controls put on groups and individuals and those
we put on ourselves.   More importantly I like the strength straight lines give a
composition.  These paintings were shown in a solo show at Scan Design in
2003.  The theme has been updated and shown at Opus6ix up to the present.

Dog Walkers

Brought together the three preceding series.  The use of leashes served as
a strong directional compositional element.  Twenty-two of these paintings
were shown in a solo show at Opus6ix in 2005.

Dining Differentials

For several years I had been photographing food and people eating.   A trip to
Spain jumpstarted this series.   In the beginning of life we may accept a little help
taking nourishment.   But very early, with a fling of the peas, we establish independence.
From then on eating is a solitary activity.   We may be with a group of people,
but our relationship with our bowl, plate or glass is uniquely our own.
This series was shown is a solo show at Opus6ix in 2006.

Confronting the Canvas

A solo show December/ January, 2007 & 2008 at Opus6ix again brought the
past into the present.    It was a show about painting, and approaching the empty
canvas.  The canvases formed the strong linear aspect to the compositions.
Subject matter of the paintings was wide open, nudes, goldfish, marionettes,
a sleeping cat, posing people, heaps of things, anything was possible.
